“We’ve built the perfect team to win market leadership for XMOS’ amazing multicore microcontroller technology,” says CEO Nigel Toon

Bristol, September 11 2012 – XMOS, developer of flexible multicore microcontrollers for consumer and real-time applications, today announces that it has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of two experienced industry professionals at Vice President level. Paul Neil joins XMOS as its VP of Product Management and Mike Furnival as VP of Sales and Marketing. In addition, the company has appointed Balakuteswar (Bala) Voleti to head its growing development center in Chennai, India.

Together with the recent recruitment of Nigel Toon as CEO, these new hires will help to accelerate the company’s growing traction within the $15bn microcontroller (MCU) market and to establish its innovative XCORE™ multicore technology as the natural alternative to traditional 32-bit MCUs for designers working on demanding embedded applications now and in the future.

Mike Furnival is a 25-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, having opened Lattice Semiconductors’ UK office in 1991, and headed sales and marketing for the entire EMEA region from 2000 to 2012. During his tenure with Lattice, Mike managed a team of 40 employees across seven offices, and helped grow the company’s revenue in EMEA from less than $5M to over $170M, negotiating multimillion-dollar contracts with leading customers in the telecom, automotive, industrial and consumer markets.

One of Mike’s key strengths is in driving success for ‘challenger’ brands – companies that present a disruptive new technology into established markets – and in encouraging the mainstream adoption of new technologies that promote performance improvements and revenue growth.

Paul Neil, VP of Product Management, comes to XMOS with over 20 years of international experience ranging from hands-on technology development and ASIC design through to marketing and full life-cycle product management of complex technology products. As Director of Product Management at Picochip, Paul drove the development of the company’s multi-award-winning 3G and 4G small cell products, and secured design wins with several tier one wireless infrastructure OEMs. Prior to this, Paul held similar positions at Axeon Holdings plc, Siroyan, Pixelfusion and ARM.

Amongst Paul’s many skills is a particular talent for helping companies to center on customer requirements and to turn new technology into compelling products. His educational qualifications include an MBA in Technology Management, a PhD in Advanced Logic Synthesis and a CIM Marketing Diploma.

Bala Voleti was previously head of the Atheros Inc development center in India and brings a huge wealth of technical and management experience to XMOS. Bala will report to Mark Lippett, who has been promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO), responsible for all engineering and operations for the company. XMOS has development teams in Bristol, UK and Chennai, India.

“With Mike Furnival heading the worldwide sales and marketing team, Paul Neil and his team driving product definition and product management, plus Mark Lippett leading the engineering and product delivery operations, we have in place a world-class team,” said Nigel Toon, XMOS CEO. “Alongside our existing team members, XMOS now has all the experience and expertise needed to guide a technology company from early customer engagements and partnerships, to be a widespread, well-accepted and mainstream technology leader.”

Nick Bishop continues as head of Finance and Administration and David May, the XMOS founder, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and inventor of the XCORE™ multicore microcontroller technology, completes the team.
