SPI Lasers plc designs, develops and manufactures fibre lasers, which have significant advantages over larger, existing alternatives. The key growth drivers for the business are the penetration of new applications and replacement of traditional laser systems. SPI is a technology leader in this high-growth sector of the mature laser market.
Amadeus has been involved with SPI since the core intellectual property was spun out of Southampton University in 2000. In 2002, Amadeus helped recruit the company’s CEO, David Parker, the former managing director of Marconi Optical components, who refocused the company’s strategy towards laser development in 2003, leading to a release of its first commercial products in 2004.
In October, 2005, SPI successfully floated on London's AIM market raising £12 million to fund the expansion of its sales channels, develop its high-end laser products, and fund the group’s working capital needs.
