The site aimed to supersede traditional closed circulation B2B magazines. Its revenues derived primarily from sponsorship and advertising and with the launch of Silicon v2.0, the site added significant recruitment advertisement capability.

Amadeus helped the company build its investor syndicate and actively participated in setting strategy for the development of the business. In the middle of 2002, Silicon Media sold the silicon.com brand and assets to CNET, which continues to operate the UK website at www.silicon.com.
