Plastic Logic

Plastic Logic, a company spun out of the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, has launched 'QUE' its iconic pro-reader (e-reader for the professional user) using its unique plastic displays which are flexible, very light and much more robust than traditional glass-based displays. The QUE pro-reader was built using Plastic Logic technology, based on a proprietary manufacturing process coupled with a reflective display medium, and offers users a paper-like reading experience that previous e-reader products have not been able to provide.

Amadeus helped build Plastic Logic around the founders, Professor Richard Friend and Dr Henning Sirringhaus, recruiting the senior management team and helping the company find the right production and product strategies. Amadeus also helped assemble a strong syndicate of investors and a sympathetic network of shareholder companies with relevant experience in the industry, including BASF, Seiko-Epson, Dow Chemical and CDT.

Plastic Logic has received four rounds of funding totalling over $200 million, with the most recent round of $100 million used to build its Dresden factory producing its flexible display modules, and to complete the design of its initial e-reader product. Amadeus has participated in each round of financing and has been joined by Oak Investment Partners, Tudor Investment Corp, and Intel Capital, among others. Hermann Hauser is a non-executive director of Plastic Logic.
