Optos is a medical technology company that has developed an instrument that takes a patient-friendly digital image of virtually the entire retina, known as an 'Optomap'. Reviewing an Optomap allows optometrists to screen for widespread conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age-related macular degenerations all of which can be treated - if identified early enough. Optomap is available in the US, Canada, Germany, the UK, France, Spain, Switzerland and Norway. The technology used to produce Optomaps is FDA approved, CE marked and covered by worldwide patent protection.
Optos is a good example of the application of information technology to healthcare markets and is now a leader in a market that has the potential to grow to $2 billion.
Amadeus has assisted Optos with strategy development, by introducing the company to specialty financing sources who underwrite the company's leasing programme and by introducing the company to leading underwriters and financial analysts as the company worked towards IPO. Optos was listed on the London Stock Exchange in February 2006. Anne Glover is a non-executive director on the Optos Board.
