Newcastle-based Nomad Holdings supplies and operates networks providing true broadband connectivity to trains. The system works by simultaneously connecting the train to multiple bearer networks along the track, which it is capable of switching rapidly between. Once installed, the Nomad solution can deliver numerous consumer services, as well as run specialist applications to improve the efficiency and security of the rail fleet.
Amadeus recognised the need for a global solution to improve connectivity on trains and was impressed by the operation of Nomad’s first installation on Southern Rail in the UK, as well as its strong and entrepreneurial management team. Since our investment, Nomad has been selected for several rail projects in the UK and around the world, has developed a strong management team, and has established itself as a leader in its sector. In March 2007 Nomad acquired QinetiQ Rail, the commercial rail division of QinetiQ, which further enhanced Nomad's technical capabilities.
In July 2006 Amadeus led a Series ‘A’ financing round of £5 million along with T-Venture, the venture capital arm of Deutsche Telekom. Bill Earner is a non-executive director of Nomad.
