Edgeware is using a novel video streaming and solid-state content storage architecture to develop innovative network server equipment that supports on-demand TV services. As the demand for Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) services increases, providers must increase streaming capacity, functionality and service quality in order to match market requirements. While initially targeted at the IPTV market, Edgeware’s products support cable TV deployments and the fast-growing mobile market.
Amadeus backed Edgeware, a start-up company based in Stockholm, Sweden, that launched its first product in the autumn of 2006, because its highly innovative approach has the potential to disrupt both the video server market and significant niches within the broader storage arena. Amadeus is working with the company to develop a strategic plan to enter a variety of market segments.
Amadeus first invested in Edgeware 2006. This initial investment was made alongside Creandum, a venture capital firm focused on Nordic early stage companies. Edgeware also recently closed an investment from Micron Ventures the venture capital arm of Micron Technology Inc, a leading flash memory player. Simon Cornwell is a non-executive director on the Edgeware Board.
