AePONA is an innovator and provider of next-generation, open-standards service creation platforms for the telecommunications marketplace. Based on standards such as OSA/Parlay and IMS, these platforms are proving very attractive to fixed and wireless telecommunications service providers that want to reduce their capital expenditure and increase average revenue per unit (ARPU) through the rapid and inexpensive development of innovative services. Over the years, AePONA has developed expertise in wireless data, SS7 protocol stacks, intelligent networks, switching and internet technology through long service projects with network equipment providers and operators worldwide. With its emphasis on creating open-standards service platforms, AePONA is well-placed to help telecommunication operators to exploit their existing infrastructure without relying on traditional proprietary solutions.
AePONA is developing network middleware that will create a clear interface between the service provisioning layer and the network resources layer of a telecommunications operator stack. AePONA's product offering provides the integration backbone for carriers', both fixed and wireless, new services. AePONA is well-placed to capture a large share of the IMS and OSA market and has already deployed gateways commercially in numerous Tier-1 operators.
Amadeus co-led the first round of funding in AePONA in April 2003 with local venture capital partner, Trinity Ventures. In February 2005 AePONA raised a $20 million second round of funding led by US VC Polaris Ventures. Both Amadeus and Trinitiy co-invested in the second round.
